Acacia The Napa and Sonoma wine country is an intricate patchwork of appellations that span across three counties showcasing 400 wineries with distinctive contemporary and historical architectural styles, breathtaking panoramas, world-class restaurants, and gourmet food stores. A few wineries are such as Kunde are still family operated 5 generations later. Some of the architectural styles include Neo-classic, Gothic, Bordeaux, Greco-Roman and seventeenth-century-style Cape Dutch. In the region, there are also some establishments that are housed in magnificent structures worth a visit for even people who do not drink wine. Built in 1879, Beringer winery is a great example of Gothic style architecture. Artesa was designed by domingo Triay in 1991 and showcases a sophisticated minimalist contemporary architectural style. The building features several water fountains, cascading waterfalls and impeccable landscaping blending into the surrounding hillsides with stunning views of rolling hills, several mountain ranges, and the San Pablo Bay. The Neibaum Coppola winery is a turn-of-the-century Bordeaux architectural style that was built in 1877 by Gustavo Neigaum. This ivy-covered winery is now owned by Francis Coppola. Housed in the Wine Library are wines from 1887 vintages. Adjacent to the Wine Library is a multimedia room displaying movie memorabilia collections from Coppola's movies such as the Godfather, and the Tucker, thus creating a symphony of old and new traditions. The Mediterranean climate in this region provides exceptional growing conditions for several grape varieties, olive oil, lavender and numerous exotic herbs featured in our wonderful restaurants. There are several resorts as well, spas, horseback riding and hiking trails and tourist attractions, all within easy access. Historically, there have been many vintners committed to educating the public and dedictated to making the finest wines in the world and preserving this heritage such as Mondavi, Duckhorn, Cakebread and Joseph Phelps. Primary grape varietals include: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Zinfandel, Malbec, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Trampanillo, Muscat, Sangiovese, and late harvest wines. Sonoma Valley The historical town of Sonoma is the birthplace of California. Sonoma Plaza was designed by General Mariano Vallejo when this was Mexico.
