- Description
Bonnet House was designed and built in 1921 by Frederic Clay Bartlett and
is one of the few complete homes and studios of a recognized American artist
that is open to the public. The creativity of the Bartlett family makes the
home truly unique. Murals on the ceilings, faux marble on the walls and floors,
and balustrades that are actually paintings are found throughout the main
house. Fish sculptures rise in the air, and shells have their own museum.
The Bartletts' eclectic collections are also on display, everything from antique
china to carousel animals from the turn of the 20th century. Nestled among
miles of beachfront development on 35 sub-tropical acres of a pristine barrier
island system, the property is home to squirrel monkeys, swans, and other

Coral Castle
- Description
One tiny man, obsessed with his love for a young woman, labored for over 25
years to build a coral rock monument to her, which is the Coral Castle. Often
referred to as America's Stonehenge this monument have baffled scientists,
engineers, and scholars since its opening in 1923 because it was completely
built by one man, without any help, using only hand tools to carve and move
tons of coral rock. When asked how he did it he answered 'I understand the
laws of weight and leverage'. During your audio tour you will see coral that
was made into a Sun Dial that records time, even today. Visit the Throne Room
(because every man's home is his castle) and the Florida Table, where he envisioned
the Governor and Senators would sit around making plans to raise taxes. In
addition you can view the bedrooms, the children's playground, and the tower
and living quarters. It truly is a Sculpture Garden and a tribute to a lost
love.
